Cheese and Mayonnaise

To start my list, I will talk about the #1 thing that Josh thinks is weird about all people, not just me. We eat cheese. I have only ever known 3 people in my life that don't like cheese and that is Josh, his dad, and his high school friend Sammy. More about Sammy later.

There was a time when Josh ate cheese, although he was very young. He can't really remember when he stopped eating cheese, or a special event as the reason. He knows that he ate cheese when he lived in Pekin. But he left Pekin when he was in 2nd grade, and never remembers eating cheese while living in Eureka.

There is a story though that demonstrates his hatred of cheese. And NONE of his friends from Eureka could wait to tell me. Everytime I met someone new, they would eventually ask, "Have you heard the story about our 8th grade field trip?" I hadn't, but it wasn't long, and it wasn't once that I finally heard it.

They were coming back from Chicago and Josh's friend hollered at him to come to the back of the bus. When he got back there, several more of his friends tackled him, pinned him down, and tried to spray Easy Cheese in his mouth. They weren't actually able to get it in his mouth, but it did get on his face around his mouth. He got a small taste and that combined with the smell of it made him throw up in a bag. He tried to throw it out the window. But the windows behind him were open and the bag came back in. It sprayed everyone behind him and himself, but even better, he also got all the guys that had played the trick.

A story he has definately learned to laugh at.

There is ONE way that Josh will eat cheese and that is on pizza. No one can explain it, not even him. I think he would say that he can't taste and smell the cheese. I personally don't understand that as I think the cheesier the better, and I wouldn't think that if I couldn't taste or smell it.

I mentioned Josh's friend Sammy before. She is a great friend of ours and she and I have talked about having dinner parties. The joke was that she would make the food for her and Josh and I would make nice cheese filled dishes for her boyfriend Lenny and myself.

However, Josh and I learned a very interesting thing recently. Sammy had a baby within the past year, and suddenly ever since, she has liked cheese. It's not just that she can tolerate it, it's that she loves it! Seeks it out! Craves it! We heard this from a mutual friend, and my response was, "See Josh! You just have to get pregnant and then maybe you'll like cheese!" It's not a go.

Josh also thinks that it is weird that I put mayonnaise on hot sandwiches. He thinks it is as WRONG as a boost mobile commercial to put it on a hot sandwich. I think he correlates it to the idea of leaving mayonnaise out in the hot sun and what happens to it. Although I don't agree, I can totally understand that one.

Anyway, here are 2 items on the list of Things I Do That My Boyfriend Thinks Are Weird.

We now have:
  • Crochet
  • Read
  • Eat Cheese
  • Eat Mayonnaise on Hot Sandwiches
Please feel free to tell us what "Weird" things you or your significant thinks each other eats. Or feel free to comment on any of the items on the list so far.

First the Conversation...Then an Idea...

Josh and I were leaving Webb's Windsor Pub and I was telling him about something I'm going to do (which will be disclosed in a later blog) and he laughed at me. I asked, "What?" and he said, "Nothing. I just think it's weird." I asked him if it would bother him and his response was, "No. There are a lot of things that you do that I think are weird. None of them bother me."

My jaw dropped in an awkward "I can't believe you said that!" smile. Instead I asked, "What do I do that you think is weird?" On que, without missing a beat he said, "Eat cheese." Then continued to mention read and crochet.

It was my turn to laugh. I said if he lumped my future act in with those other "weird" things then I wasn't too worried about it...

So, that is where this began. I shared this story with a co-worker of mine yesterday.

Today, my co-worker said she would like to take line dancing lessons. I said if she found a class that was on a night that worked, I would take them with her. I said it would be something I could add to the list of things that I do that Josh thinks are weird.

And then it hit me...I'm really going to make "A List" And then....I'm going to purposefully try to find things to put on the list!

And then the next part of the idea hit me! I'll blog about it! And blogging about it would in itself become the next thing on the list of things I do that Josh thinks is weird.

I've been wanting to find a way to exercise my creative writing and have been trying to find a new "project". I hope this becomes a fun and amusing adventure. And I'm hoping others participate by commenting, including posts regarding what weird things they or their significant other's do.

Stay tuned for the list ;o)
